For the development of simple applications, it is possible to avoid direct programming, making use of some templates already included in the package. For more advanced development needs, the product provides the Microsoft Visual Basic programming language (for Office applications defined as VBA - Visual Basic for Applications). Although the product supports object-oriented (OO) programming techniques, it is not entirely an object-oriented development environment.
